"Having The Carter Leadership Collaborative lead our staff retreat was the best change management decisions we made. The facilitators - led by Sheryl - were incredibly sharp and warm and welcoming to our team. I already knew of Sheryl's exceptional reputation and had previously witnessed her in action as she Co-Chaired Yale University's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) committee whose work spanned the globe. With our remote, multigenerational and very passionate and opinionated staff here in the U.S., Sheryl and her team gave us a masterclass in empathetic and active listening that made our entire team feel comfortable from the start. Our organization was undertaking a sharp and. challenging pivot that both embraced DEI and data driven strategies. Over two days (not including prep time and followup), our staff were able to digest her materials and presentations. She helped steer complex conversations we were having around DEI, and our staff returned the second day ready to share and unpack our thoughts and ask any lingering questions. During our sessions they helped us create some community guidelines (which we still use today!), an agreement for a safe space to use at all external and internal meetings we convene. She pushed us to think about DEI on a deeper level so that it's not performative, but ingrained in our culture. Following our time with them they then created a roadmap for the organization to follow to continue our learning around DEI, and even sent over a book list for our staff who were interested in reading more.
